Classic Outboard Championships Return to Lake Havasu for 2022
While the rest of the country deals with decreasing temperatures and inclement weather, Havasu folks enjoy sunny skies and temperatures in the upper-80s/low 90s. Higher temps for longer periods of time mean that our lake water feels like a lukewarm bath. That allows water activities like the Lake Havasu Classic Outboard Championships to take place so late in the year.
- What: Lake Havasu Classic Outboard Championships 2022
- Where: The Nautical Beachfront Resort (1000 McCulloch Blvd N) - Maps & Directions
- When: October 14th to 16th
If you like watching powerboats in action, then you're going to definitely want to visit the Nautical Beachfront Resort this weekend. Enjoy the heart-pumping, adrenaline-filled, high-octane fueled racing of Formula 1, Tri-Hulls, and Formula Lights all weekend long. It makes sense to hold these types of races here, too. Remember: Mr. Robert McCulloch (Lake Havasu City's founder) discovered our little oasis in the desert while seeking out a place to test his outboard motors way back in the 1960s.
Kick off the weekend's events with the Friday night Pit Party at the Nautical Beachfront Resort. From 4 pm to 8 pm, this year's boat racers will be available for a fun meet-and-greet session. Get an autograph and photo with your favorites. Plus, get a sneak peek at the vintage boats on display. Food and beverages will be available for sale during the pit party as well.
Spectators can view the races by land or by water. The best places to view by land either at the Nautical Inn Resort, at London Bridge Beach, or from Rotary Park. But if you want to spend the day on your own boat, anchor yourself in Thompson Bay. Just make sure to watch out for the race course indicator flags. You need to stay outside of that area for your safety and the safety of the racers.
In addition to the non-stop action of powerboat racing, organizers put together a vintage boat display at the resort on Saturday and Sunday. See how these boats have evolved over the years. Fill all of your marine-related needs at one of the vendors on-site all weekend long.
