About Relics & Rods
In the heart of Lake Havasu City, a group of nine residents, united by their passion for vintage vehicles, formed the Relics & Rods Car Club in 1975. The club, which initially met at various locations like Kings Clipper Barber Shop and Wings Best Western Motel, soon became a pivotal part of the local community and car culture.
In 1978, the club members decided to organize a car show, which was initially called the "Camp-O-Rama" and held at the London Bridge Shopping Center’s parking lot, showcasing 28 vehicles. Over the years, the event transitioned to October and was renamed "Run to the Sun." It has witnessed a surge in popularity, with some years seeing participation of as many as 1,000 vehicles.
The "Run to the Sun" event has expanded its criteria to include vehicles from 1972 and earlier, and this year, it is anticipated to feature over 800 entries, promising a spectacular display of classic and collectible cars. The event is not merely a car show but a celebration of automotive history, craftsmanship, and the vibrant community that supports it.
Relics & Rods Car Club has been a significant contributor to local community charities, donating over $250,000 from the proceeds of their shows over several years. This generous contribution has been possible due to the continuous enthusiasm of the members, the run committee, and the invaluable support from numerous sponsors.
This year marks another milestone with the 45th Annual Relics & Rods Run to the Sun. Participants and spectators can anticipate a dazzling array of the finest classic and collectible cars, each with its unique history and charm.
The "Run to the Sun" event is not just a car show; it's a testament to the enduring spirit of the classic car community and the positive impact it has had on Lake Havasu City. The Relics & Rods Car Club, through its events and charitable activities, has become an integral part of the local community, fostering a spirit of unity, generosity, and shared passion for classic vehicles. As we celebrate another year of this remarkable event, we look forward to the continued success and growth of the club and its contributions to the classic car world and the local community.
